The Story Behind Mentis

Mentis was founded by Jacob Dayton and Jay Hamilton, two friends who turned a deeply personal journey into a purpose-driven wellness brand.

Jacob—a software engineer with ADHD—began experimenting with nootropic stacks in 2022 after realizing he no longer wanted to rely on Adderall. Frustrated by the weak doses and bitter taste of most mushroom coffees and supplement capsules on the market, he started formulating his own functional mushroom blends from home.

Jacob not only got off Adderall entirely—he also became more grounded, more present, and more himself. Friends and family noticed the shift in his energy, habits, and mood—before he ever told them what he was doing. That’s when he knew he was onto something real.

He shared the capsules with Jay, who also manages ADHD, and experienced similar benefits. Together, they began offering their blends to close friends, family, and coworkers—who all echoed the same feedback:

“Other mushroom supplements didn’t work for me. Yours actually made a difference.”

About Jacob

Jacob has been a software engineer since 2018, and a passionate wellness researcher for nearly as long. He’s deeply invested in understanding how functional mushrooms, nootropics, and exercise interact with mood, cognition, and long-term brain health.

Outside of work and Mentis, you’ll find Jacob outdoors—hiking in spring, backpacking in summer, and skiing through the Utah winters. He also lifts, strength trains, and brings the same analytical mindset from tech into wellness: tracking what works, what doesn’t, and why.
